Southwest Motorsport, Inc. (SWMS) offers two options for those who are interested in taking their sport-driving activity a step further, but either do not want to participate in a fully competitive racing situation or do not yet have a car technically suited for racing with all the necessary safety equipment for wheel to wheel racing.
Stage 1: Lunchtime Lapping
For a $20 fee you can bring your car out to the event, and participate in a speed-controlled session driving behind a lead car for approximately 20 minutes. This is a great way to see if you like the on-track experience, and to gradually get your feet wet.
Stage 2: High Performance Driving
Once you have successfully graduated from our High Performance Driving Education (HPDE) School, you will be eligible for weekend lapping sessions without an instructor. You will be on-track with several other drivers with similar qualifications and are allowed to drive your vehicle within its, and your performance parameters.
This is not a racing experience. Passing is allowed only on the straights, and with the signaled permission of the driver being passed (you must be “waved” or “pointed” by). Though we do not require a competition harness, or a fire-suit, your car must be “teched” and you must wear a Snell Foundation approved helmet. We highly recommend that you wear long pants and a long-sleeve cotton T-shirt, and comfortable, closed-toed shoes which will give good “feel” for the pedals
This is a great way to get your feet wet (wetter!), learn more about your driving and your car, find your personal and budgetary limitations, become comfortable with the on-track situation and meet a lot of great people with your same interests.
Whichever level of participation you choose, come on out and join us for the fun.
