The first SouthWest MotorSport driving event is in the books. I would like to
thank all of the volunteers that ran the event. We had several new faces in new
positions and the event went off without a hitch. Thanks again to all of you.
We had our first “Youth Karting” event as well. The “Youth Karting” group is made up of young kids aged six to fourteen. They compete on a short course that was set up on the two ovals. It was exciting to see these young people having so much fun driving their karts. If any of you have or know of, kids that want to be part of this new and exciting program, get in touch with me. My information is under the “contact us” area of the website.
We had a light turn out of cars last weekend. I am looking forward to seeing more of you out now that you have had an additional few weeks to get them ready. The racing was very exciting. The start of the Saturday Contemporary race saw three wide racing into turn one. Russ Kelso continued to dominate this class by winning both days. Gordon Self won the “Over 1500 cc” Vintage class with Ross Kells topping the "Under“1500 cc” Vintage class. Charlie Daniels and Bob McNeill shared the Open Wheel class wins. Bob Hawk was the Shifter Kart class winner on Sunday.
Our next racing event will be May 2nd and 3rd. I hope to see more Spec Miata and Vintage class cars. I know that you are all out there now we just need to see you out having fun with SouthWest MotorSport.
This summer I will be going to several car shows around the Albuquerque area. My goal is to introduce more people to SouthWest MotorSport and get more racing enthusiasts out enjoying their cars. If you want to join me, I will let people know which shows SouthWest MotorSport will be at. We will be passing out our new tri-fold brochure that will be at the printers next week.
Until next time, happy motoring and enjoy driving your cars……
